Howard+Helmer architecture Mobile

Burke A Jones, AIA

When did you start working at Howard+Helmer?
January 1993

What does your day-to-day job entail?
Lots of things, which is what keeps it interesting. My typical day can go from designing a firewall connection to speaking with a potential client about a new project. I have to wear many different hats in my role.

What’s your favorite aspect of what you do for a living?
Getting to know my clients and being a part of pulling their vision of the project out of their minds and into a finished building.

Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere—but my biggest inspiration really comes from our great clients.

What’s one project that you’re especially proud of and why?
Church of the Magdalen in Wichita. It is always great to use your God given talents to create a place of worship for a community.

If you weren’t an architect, what could you see yourself doing?
Law enforcement —I actually started college in accounting with the idea of joining the FBI after graduation.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
All-you-can-eat crab legs with unlimited butter.

If you were traveling to a deserted island, what three things would you take with you?
I’m a realist so it would probably be my Leatherman, a windproof lighter and a hammock.
